Dinner Ladies!
Post Dinner Ladies!
by Lemonhunny on 01/13/2009 21:47

Are there no other (ex) dinner ladies out there on the forum?

I was a dinner lady at the local boys' grammar school here in Bournemouth for three years, around 20 years ago.

We did a cafeteria system for lunches and morning break.

Morning break time was toast mainly, with coffee, tea and hot chocolate for the boys and teachers. Flapjacks and biscuits were also available.

Lunch times were standard school fayre for the time.

Friday was always roast dinner day - with extremely dubious looking beef or chicken mainly. It was always very popular and we ran out quickly. I distinctly remember one boy always having a sachet of ketchup with his!

The liver and onions was my favourite dish, with the school cook Lorna making the most delicious rich gravy. Always served with mash and cabbage.

Favourite pudding for the boys was always chocolate sponge with chocolate butter cream made by assistant cook Betty, and a chocolate custard with it.

Enjoying the fruits of our labours after service was over was always looked forward to before commencing the mammoth task of the washing up!

Hi , i am currently a catering supervisor as we are now known! LOL.
I run the kitchen in a small primary school approx 130 pupils. We serve on average 65 meals a day, goes up and down depending whats on the menu and what time of year it is.
We do roast dinner every wednesday which is popular. I must say i love my job and yes it is very hard work but when all the children come back to say thankyou for their dinner it makes it all worthwhile
